Investigate the symptom
Staining can involve iron, copper or manganese. Request the laboratory result, concentration and units rather than selecting media from a stain alone.
Match treatment to evidence
Ask which measured constituent is targeted, whether oxidation or pretreatment is needed, and how pH and actual flow affect the specified media. Compare the complete system’s supported performance rather than a generic iron-removal label.
Compare installation and upkeep
Check pump output and backwash demand, drain arrangements, bypass and sample points. An installation quote should include startup testing and a maintenance plan; a softener should not be presumed to solve every iron condition.
Start with the Palm City water-source guide and EPA well-owner guidance. A utility report is not an individual well test. Compare well-water treatment, testing, softening and the local Learn guide.
